Bolivar County Named Certified ACT Work Ready Community
Cleveland –The Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Bolivar County is now a certified ACT Work Ready Community (WRC). This program helps to link workforce development to education and to help match individuals to jobs based on their skill levels.
The foundation of the certification is based on individuals at the county level across the current, transitioning and emerging workforce earning an ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT WorkKeys NCRC) and employers recognizing the ACT WorkKeys NCRC. The ACT WorkKeys NCRC is a portable, industry-recognized credential that clearly identifies an indiviual’s WorkKeys® skills in workplace documents, applied math and graphic literacy.
“Having this certification gives us a good picture of where we are skills-wise for our County,” says Judson Thigpen, Executive Director of the Chamber. “The statistics derived from these tests of Bolivar Countians lets us know where our strengths and weaknesses are without having to guess. We can now work in various ways to improve on the skills our businesses need.”
By participating in ACT’s Work Ready Communities initiative, it can help individuals understand what skills are required by employers, helps business and industry know what foundational skills they need for a productive workforce, allows policy makers to consistently measure the skills gaps in a timely manner, and helps educators work to close the skills gaps. It is a marketing tool to help economic developers market the quality of their workforce.
