To: Future Delta Participant
Delta Council invites you and your spouse to a special event for Future Delta, intended to recognize and gather the Delta’s future leaders who are involved in farming and allied agricultural businesses in our 18-county region.
The 6th Annual Future Delta event will be held Friday, September 29, 2017, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Warfield Point Park outside Greenville, MS. The meeting will be held under the "I Give a Crop" tent at the Mighty Mississippi Music Festival, and we are pleased to announce that the meeting will feature a panel of water resource experts, lead by Kay Whittington, the director of the Office of Land and Water Resources and other key personnel from critical agencies, who will provide an overview on the “MS River Alluvial Aquifer: Groundwater Challenges and Opportunities”.
Water supply is a critical economic issue for Delta agriculture. Delta Council views that it is important and timely to provide an update on the work that the Water Resources Task Force is focused upon. Some of the key findings from the people and agencies who are working will be amongst us to address this issue on behalf of Delta agriculture. These same experts who are helping us address these challenges consistently stress that we are dewatering the aquifer, but we have time during your farming generation to stabilize this situation.
Thanks to the generosity of the Mighty Mississippi Music Festival organizers, (Steve Azar, Jason Fratesi, Jamie Murrell, and their sponsors), participants in the future Delta event - and their spouses if they attend – will be given free access passes to Friday evening’s festival programming. In addition, they will receive passes for the new Thursday night Singer-Songwriter event on Thursday, access to the “I Give A Crop” tent on Friday, as well as general admission for Saturday’s festival. For more information about the festival and the benefits of "I Give a Crop", please visit http://www.mightymississippimusicfestival.com.
If you indicate you will attend, you will be able to pick up your Friday credentials at the entrance of the "I Give a Crop" tent prior to the 4 p.m. start of the water resource presentation. It is critical that you reply to Shelia Smith at Delta Council before Tuesday, September 26, in order to receive your parking pass. If you would like to upgrade your Saturday passes to “I Give a Crop”, the participants have the option to purchase those at the festival on Friday for a discounted price of $50 for Future Delta participants only. Also, let Shelia know if you are interested in attending the Thursday Singer-Songwriter contest. (Your reserved credentials will be voided after 4 p.m. on Friday if you and/or your spouse cannot attend.)
Thank you for your participation and leadership in agriculture and our region, and we hope that you and your spouse or your companion can join us for this special event in honor of you. Please reply to [email protected] as soon as possible so you can confirm your attendance and reserve your passes.
Sincerely,
George King, President Steve Azar
