Job Losses in the Mississippi Delta

The document below details the layoffs and closures that have affected the Mississippi Delta since July, 2008, based on information reported to the MS Department of Employment Security. Of course, this is not an exhaustive list since not all companies and layoffs have to be reported, but it does provide a good snapshot. While the Delta has lost jobs, it is not out of proportion to the rest of the State and certainly less than the Nation percentage wise. (Based on this incomplete list, the Delta has lost .07 percent of all jobs and the State has lost .06 percent. Again, I stress that these reports mainly focus on manufacturing and retail, and do not reflect contractions on smaller establishments, companies with smaller layoffs, jobs in the building trades, unfilled jobs, etc.)
